Surgical Inflammatory Colonic Disease of Right Colon in Korea

Abstract

|
Right lower abdominal pain and mass are frequent complaints of gastrointestinal disorder. So differential diagnosis among the various conditions is very difficult.
We reviewed the colon tuberculosis, colonic diverticulums and Crohn´s disease from 1973:to 1983 in Department of Surgery, National Medical Center,
The followings were the results.
1) Colonic tuberculosis were 4 cases, Among them one was localized tuberculosis in appendix. The complaints of others were right lower quadrant abdominal masses. So we had to differentiated these from colonic cancer.
2) Colonic diverticulums were 5 cases and located in cecum and ascending colon in all. We had to differentiated from acute appendicitis and periappendiceal absess.
3) Crohn´s colitis were 5 cases. At first operative diagnoses were colonic tuberculosis but theses were revealed to Crohn´s disease by histopathologic exammination. The most lesions were located in ileocecal region. Complaints were abdominal pain and differention from tuberculosis were difficult.
